Since 1964, Mr. Sims has directed the efforts of the firm and individual project teams within the firm on scores of cultural, institutional, transportation, residential, and planning project. Many projects under his direct project planning have been cited by professional and technical societies for outstanding building design.Throughout his career as an architect and planner, Mr. Sims has directed the planning and design of well over $3 billion of construction. Recent projects under his direction include the new Museum of African American History, the School of Social Work for the University of Michigan, the redevelopment and expansion of the campus of the University of Michigan - Dearborn, and the historic Stroh River Place development, Terminal Facilities - Detroit Metropolitan Airport. For twenty years, Mr. Sims has directed projects in the transportation and aviation fields. In Michigan, completed projects include many projects at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) including the new commuter terminal Concourse G. For this project, his firm was named “Airport Consultant of the Year” by the Michigan Bureau of Aeronautics. Also at DTW his projects include the International Arrivals portion of the new Midfield Terminal, and the new 11,680 space parking structure. Elsewhere he has directed projects at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport Houston, Willow Run Airport, Bradley International Airport & Rickenbacker International Airport. |

After working since graduation in Western Europe’s largest architectural practice during which time he won the design competition for the redevelopment of the city center of Middlesborough, Mr. Harrison joined Sims Design Group in 1977. With SDG, he has been responsible for the design of a wide range of projects including the Cobo Convention & Exhibition Center and the new Museum of African American History. Both projects have received multiple design awards. Mr. Harrison’s aviation experience includes projects at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, Cleveland Hopkins Airport, Bradley International Airport, Willow Run Airport, Rickenbacker International Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport Houston. At DTW he has successfully completed projects for Wayne County, Northwest Airlines and concessionaires. Based on Mr. Harrison’s design for Concourse G, SDG were designated “Airport Consultant of the Year” in 1995 by the State of Michigan Department of Transportation Bureau of Aeronautics. Mr. Harrison is also known for his work on energy conscious design. He participated in work with the United States Department of Energy and the AIA Research Corporation to establish national energy standards for educational building types. Mr. Harrison’s work was publishedin several national journals. |
